Giro founder "Flyin" Jim Gentes was a Northern California Cyclocross pioneer and a Junior cycling phenom. Gentes was the first ever USA Junior National Champion for Cyclocross. Tom Simpson wrote a fine article on California Cyclocross and the history of riders like Gentes, Clark Natwick, & Gary Fisher. This article is worth reading.
